Observer Corps volunteers attend public meetings of local government to observe and report on the meetings of government bodies. Observers do not participate in the meetings. They observe and write a brief report so League members can find out what took place.
The Observer Corps Form that the League volunteer fills out is one page and notes things like whether the meeting started on time, whether the agenda was followed, whether the agenda was posted ahead of time.
Observers have been successful in monitoring government bodies, suggesting changes, and sharing with members how government works.
If you are a League member and would like to be an Observer Corps volunteer, contact our membership chair at observercorps@lwvrv.org.
